Derrygowna Renewable
Energy Project
Welcome to our project’s website
Empower Renewables are currently exploring the potential for a renewable energy project in the townlands of Derrygowna, Glanminane, Glannaharee East, Garrane, Knockavaddra, approximately 30km northwest of Cork City. This website will provide accurate and up to date project information as the potential project’s design evolves.
We are committed to developing responsible renewable energy projects in a way that is good for us, good for Ireland and good for the communities local to our projects. We acknowledge this can be challenging. Therefore, we commit to managing the future design and development of this potential project in a responsible and collaborative way. We have started our project’s community engagement process prior to beginning the detailed environmental and engineering assessments.
We design all our project’s community engagement campaigns this way so meaningful conversations can be cultivated with any interested stakeholders at a time before any detailed designs are advanced. This seems the best way in which a locally sustainable renewable energy project can be realised and help to deliver Ireland’s 2030 energy targets.
The Study Area selection and design process for any renewable energy project is lengthy and iterative and the project team will work at length to design any potential future project at Derrygowna incorporating local community opinion.
Early assessments indicated that this general area has capacity, in principle, for a renewable energy project pending further study. Constraints such as setback distance to housing, designated environmental areas, cultural heritage, existing grid infrastructure, hydrological and ecological features are initially assessed. The Cork County Development Plan designations and the renewable resource on the Study Area are also considered. This leads to a potential Buildable Area for a renewable energy project within which a project design can progress.
